A sports and recreation programme was conducted to promote physical activity, teamwork, and positive behaviour among children. Volunteers organised running races, group games, and team-building activities, while providing play materials and motivating children to build confidence and sportsmanship.
The session enhanced coordination, teamwork, and emotional well-being among participants.
Impact: Caretakers observed improved bonding, greater peer interaction, and noticeable positive behaviour following the event.
The module titled “I Care for My World – Empathy & Civic Responsibility” was conducted for students of Grades 4–5 under the NSNOP initiative.
Through storytelling, games, videos, role play, and guided reflection, children learned to understand others’ feelings, practise kindness, and take responsibility for their surroundings.
Activities such as the Empathy Circle, Civic Responsibility Tree, classroom audit, and skits on good citizenship helped students connect their daily habits with overall community well-being.
Students identified simple eco-friendly actions, pledged personal responsibilities, and shared how they would care for their school and environment.
Impact: The module strengthened empathy, civic awareness, and positive behaviour among young learners.
Under the NSNOP initiative, a Financial Literacy Session was conducted to help school students understand the value of money and make responsible financial choices.
Children learned about currency denominations, the difference between needs and wants, and the importance of saving through engaging stories, discussions, and a fun shopping activity using play money. They reflected on spending habits, identified priorities, and explored ethical ways of earning.
Interactive tasks and real-life scenarios strengthened decision-making and budgeting skills. Each child received a piggy bank to encourage consistent daily saving.
Impact: The session effectively built financial awareness, responsibility, and smart money habits among students.
In June, SHIFT-R volunteers conducted a 1.5-hour Mental Health Awareness Session across 7 Chennai Corporation Schools in Mogappair under the NSNOP initiative.
The session helped children understand and express emotions through puppetry, storytelling, art activities, games, and situational exercises. Students learned to identify basic emotions, communicate feelings safely, and practise coping skills such as deep breathing and mindfulness.
Creative tasks like drawing emotions, mood badges, and a newspaper fashion parade encouraged confidence, teamwork, and self-awareness.
The session concluded with STAR breathing, enabling children to experience calmness and emotional balance. Overall, the programme strengthened emotional literacy and supported the mental well-being of students in all seven schools.

This initiative supported 12 students from Kalaiselvi Karunalaya by sponsoring their monthly transportation from June to March, ensuring safe and reliable daily travel to school.
By removing a major barrier to attendance, the project led to regular school participation, reduced absenteeism, and improved academic continuity. This consistent support helped prevent potential dropouts and kept the children engaged and motivated throughout the academic year.
